For Older Adults

Services available to older adults in Pennsylvania are listed below. To find out more about meals and other services available in your area, contact your local Area Agency on Aging.

SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP)
You may qualify for SNAP, which provides money on a Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that you can use to purchase food.
There are a few ways to apply:
Simple SNAP Application for Elderly or Disabled Households
You can use this application for SNAP benefits if everyone in the household is age 60 or older or disabled and purchases and prepares food together (people in the household are not required to be related) and does not receive any earnings from work. SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTERS
Meals are available at more than 600 Senior Community Centers in Pennsylvania. Helpful information:
  • Nutritious meals are available to individuals age 60 and older and their spouses.
  • Meals are usually served once a day around noon.
  • Meals meet the needs of people who watch their diet because of heart disease or diabetes.
  • Meals are provided free of charge, but you may choose to give a donation.
  • Call the center in your area to make a reservation or stop in to see what the center has to offer you. 
SENIOR BOXES
If your income is less than a certain amount per year, and you are over the age of 60, you may be eligible to receive a monthly box food. View eligibility amounts on the PA Hunger Resource website. Registered seniors are eligible to receive a free box of healthy, nonperishable foods. Products are provided by the USDA and include bottles of 100% juice, cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and stews, milk, cereal, peanut butter, and more. Senior boxes are distributed through food banks. Find your local food bank.
 
PENNSYLVANIA SENIOR FARMERS MARKET PROGRAM
Recipients are given a list of participating farmers and farmers' markets when they receive their vouchers. These vouchers are redeemed for fresh fruits and vegetables grown in Pennsylvania. Each eligible recipient receives four $5.00 SFMNP vouchers to redeem at a qualified farmers' markets or roadside stands. There are over 1,150 FMNP participating farmers at 828 farm stands and 202 farmers' markets in Pennsylvania. Contact your local Area Agency on Aging for more information.
